February’s stone is the Amethyst and it signifies, balance.
How apt as we move into the second month of the year and we can feel our New Years resolutions slipping through the cracks. We are desperate for some much needed time off but we are hustling to get business in for Valentines Day and the more we look at it, it’ll be April before we can even consider a break.
So in saying this we need to be mindful of retaining a balance and ensuring we do not burn ourselves out. I have put together some tips; of which I am sure you have heard before but take note, please, and just take care of yourselves.
- Exercise
Our jobs are very intense and taxing on our bodies. We have to keep fit and do some exercise to ensure we always have our heads and bodies in the game. Even if it is just a twenty-minute walk everyday – make the time and DO IT! You will not be sorry – it will make your days easier. We stand a lot and our circulation slows, you need to get this moving so you do not land up with swollen ankles or even worse broken capillaries.
- Eat properly
Not only will this save you a lot of money in the long run; but your body will also thank you. Eating bought food everyday will raise and drop your sugar levels and leave you feeling flat by 4pm. Celebrate your body everyday by feeding it fresh healthy, pre-prepared food from home.
- Really Relax
Unplug when you get home – especially if you are a manager or front desk co-coordinator. Feed your mind as you do your body with healthiness not just streams of social media and gossip. In the same way avoid “going out with the girls” for a drink after work. Our days are long and draining as we have established previously and being hung over the next day will stress you out even more. Bow out politely and go home and REST. You will never be sorry.
- Read
Keep your self inspired and up to date as to what is going on; not only within the industry but business and general news too. Books by professionals and entrepreneurs who have really made it in the world are such an unbelievable source of daily inspiration. Read the newspaper– you have to know what is going on in the world – the public has a preconceived idea that beauty therapists are school dropouts with air in their heads. Prove them wrong -Do not let this be sustained by being lazy and uninformed. There are so many publications that keep us abreast of all the exciting things going on in the spa and beauty industry as well. Subscribe to these and make sure you know what’s going on.
Have a wonderful February everyone – it’s the month of love – love yourself and respect yourself enough to ensure that these simple everyday practices find a place in your life to help balance your busy and somewhat exhausting work schedule and much needed time out.
