Oh summer how sweet are you….. not only does it mean the evenings will be getting longer and warmer but in my industry, it means MONEY!!!

In the salon and spa environment summer is our busiest season…But are you ready for it? Are you ready for the chaos that is about to start….?

No…well here are a few tips to help prepare you for what’s coming…

  1. Alert the troops!

Remind family, friends, and the rest of your circle about what’s going on in your work life. Set expectations for how you’ll respond to requests and meet obligations. They forget sometimes that it requires longer hours than usual to get the work done and comply with some clients’ wishes.

  1. Holster that phone.

Time management is critical, so let go of things that fritter away your time. It’s crucial to ensure that you don’t read your Face Book posts every 10 minutes. Set aside designated times in the day to catch up on live feeds, what’s trending or emails.

  1. RECHARGE.

Structure your days so you stay fresh enough to handle the load. KEEP A BALANCE. What’s really important for your overall energy level and attitude is to manage your hours.

Plan real breaks before and after your busy season – It’s a good time to cash in on some leave and really recharge before the busy season. Study has shown that people can handle a short burst of really intense work, as long as they also get adequate recovery time.

  1. Eat in.

Having lunch at your desk OR in the staff room is a good trade-off on some days. Spending as much time in the salon or spa will benefit you and allow you turn extra money with the odd walk ins.

  1. KEEP IT SIMPLE

De clutter your life outside of work. Your busy season is not the time to take on new personal projects outside of work. The busy season needs you FULL ATTENTION!

  1. Stay positive

A negative person can affect an entire team! Emotions run high in a busy season, and there is always a member of you team who hits the ceiling at some point. I’ve found that using humor can really lighten the mood and maintain an awesome energy in your team. Following the Spa Sense Face Book Page and reading our blogs can help you with that! 1. Take care of YOU!

This means eating well, going to bed at a decent hour, going for walks, and making time to unwind with friends and family. It might be less than you might prefer, but don’t give it up entirely. If your busy period requires travel, pack your workout clothes and spend time walking around site seeing or strolling down the beach front after hours…instead of the bar.

  1. Review and improve

It’s amazing what you forget over a year and are doomed to repeat again. Ask your manager to book you on as much training as possible. Like the Spa Sense Retail Training & Outrageous Customer Service course. Use the time just before the busy season for improvements and recapping to make sure you are at your best and ready to SELL SELL SELL!!

So READY…..SET….GO!!

And Good Luck!!
